GRUNDIG: 80 Years of Automotive Engineering & Precision

Since 1945, Grundig has stood for German precision engineering. From the 1951 Autosuper 248 to today, we bring German-engineered safety and convenience to every drive — car, RV, and beyond.

About GRUNDIG RV CO, Propane & Natural Gas Detector

Your RV's furnace, stove, water heater, and generator all produce carbon monoxide. A single propane leak can fill your RV in minutes. Parked at a campground with natural gas? That's a third threat. CO is odorless and invisible — you won't know something's wrong until symptoms hit. By then, it's often too late.

The GRUNDIG KH168 detects CO, propane, and natural gas before you feel a single symptom — and unlike any alarm that quits when the power does, it keeps watching after the lights go out. Four live readings. A spoken alarm. A 9V battery compartment (battery not included) for the moment the power dies.

Ⅰ. Key Highlights

【5-in-1: CO + Propane/Natural Gas + Temperature + Humidity + 9V Battery Backup】 — CO: 0–2,000 ppm, alarms at 150 ppm. Propane & Natural Gas: 0–10% LEL, alarms at just 5% LEL. Plus continuous temperature (1–176°F) and humidity (0–99%) monitoring — and a 9V battery compartment that keeps the unit alive for over 4 hours when mains power fails. Please note: the 9V battery itself is not included. The alarm comes with an empty battery compartment — you simply buy a 9V battery locally and place it in.

【Voice Alert + 85dB Siren + Flashing Red LED】 — Most alarms just beep at 3 a.m. and leave you staring at the ceiling. The KH168 adds a spoken alert  — a human voice cuts through deep sleep, headphones, and road noise in a way a beep never will. Backed by a siren with three adjustable volume levels (60 / 70 / 85dB) and a high-contrast red LED that flashes with every alarm. See it even if you can't hear it.

【Alarms at Just 5% LEL — Earlier Warning Than Most】 — Many household alarms don't trigger until 10–25% of the lower explosive limit. The KH168 sounds the alarm at 5% LEL, giving you a wider safety margin to ventilate, shut off the gas, and get everyone outside. Real-time CO concentration, gas concentration, temperature, and humidity on the LCD at a glance.

【9V Battery Compartment — Protection When the Power Dies】 — Plug it in for everyday use; the KH168 runs on AC 110–220V and monitors continuously, year-round. On the rear cover there's a 9V battery compartment — and it arrives empty. No battery is included; you buy one standard 9V alkaline battery yourself and place it in. Leave a battery in the compartment year-round so your backup is always armed, or leave it empty and drop one in only when you need it — both work. When a blackout, tripped breaker, or dead campground pedestal cuts your power, the alarm keeps protecting you for over 4 hours. No charging, no cables, no battery degradation from heat.

【Plugs In Under 60 Seconds — And Adjusts to Your Room】 — No wiring, no tools, no hardwiring into your RV's 12V system. Plug into any standard AC outlet. Three brightness levels and three volume levels let you tune it bright and loud for a hallway, or dim and quiet for a bedroom wall. The plug adapter rotates freely to fit sideways sockets and tight corners. Compact at 4.9 × 2.2 × 2.3 in (124.3 × 56.5 × 57.7 mm).

【Certified & Backed for 2 Years】 — Tested and certified to UL 1484 (residential gas detectors) and UL 2034 (carbon monoxide alarms). One-touch SELF-TEST verifies every sensor, the sounder, and the lights in seconds. Backed by a 2-year warranty — replace, don't repair.

【Ideal For】 — RV, Motorhome, Camper Van, Travel Trailer, 5th Wheel, Truck Cab, Cabin, Home, Bedroom, Kitchen, Basement, Garage, Office, Hotel Room.

⚠️ Important: The KH168 runs on AC power (110–220V) as its normal mode — plug it in and it monitors continuously. This alarm does not come with a battery. It has a 9V battery compartment only; you purchase a standard 9V alkaline battery (GLR61 or equivalent) yourself and place it in the compartment. With a battery installed, the alarm keeps protecting you for over 4 hours during a power outage. Installing a battery is entirely optional for everyday use — but it's your safety net for the moment the power goes out.

Ⅴ. FAQ

Q1: What gases does the KH168 detect?
It detects Carbon Monoxide (CO), Propane (LPG), Natural Gas (Methane), and other combustible gases — plus continuous temperature and humidity monitoring. Four live readings on one screen.

Q2: Will it go off every time I cook?
No. The KH168 only alarms when gas concentrations reach genuinely dangerous levels — its threshold is 5% LEL, a point well above normal cooking fumes. It also displays the real-time reading, so you can see the number yourself rather than wondering whether a beep was real.

Q3: Does it come with a battery?
No — the alarm does not include a battery. It has a 9V battery compartment only. You buy one standard 9V alkaline battery (GLR61 or equivalent) yourself and place it in the compartment. Any 9V alkaline cell works, and they're sold in every grocery store, gas station, and hardware shop.

Q4: Does it need a battery to work?
No. The KH168 runs on AC power (110–220V, 50/60Hz) as its normal mode and monitors continuously — a battery is not required for everyday use. The 9V compartment is purely for backup.

You can leave a battery in the compartment while it's plugged in, so your backup is always armed and ready. Or you can leave the compartment empty and drop a battery in only when the power goes out. Both are perfectly fine.

Q5: What is the CO measuring range?
0 to 2,000 ppm, with the alarm triggering at 150 ppm.

Q6: What about propane and natural gas? What is the range?
0 to 10% LEL, with the alarm triggering at just 5% LEL — an early-warning threshold that gives you more time to act than most household alarms.

Q7: Can I use it in the US?
Yes. A North American plug standard is available, and the unit operates on standard US 120V/60Hz power. A European plug standard is also available for other regions.

Q8: How loud is the alarm — and can I adjust it?
The siren has three levels: 60, 70, and 85 dB. Set it low for a bedroom wall, high for a noisy cabin, garage, or galley. Screen brightness adjusts in three levels too.

Q9: What does the voice say?
It speaks one clear, simple alert: "Gas leak detected. Please pay attention." A human voice pulls your attention far better than a beep — especially when you're asleep or the room is noisy. It deliberately doesn't announce which specific gas triggered the alarm; for that, just glance at the LCD, which shows the live CO level, gas level, temperature, and humidity, with the red ALARM indicator lit.

Q10: What does the yellow light mean?
The yellow FAULT indicator means the device has detected a fault condition and needs attention. A steady green POWER light means the unit is live and monitoring normally.

Q11: How do I test the device?
Press the SELF-TEST button once. The unit runs a full diagnostic — sensors, sounder, and lights. It also self-tests automatically for 180 seconds on every power-up.

Q12: My temperature and humidity readings look slightly off right after plugging in.
That's expected. The temperature and humidity sensor needs about 30 minutes after power-up to reach its most accurate reading. Give it half an hour and it will settle to the true value.

Q13: I've heard CO rises and propane sinks — can one detector really cover both?
CO is slightly lighter than air and rises, so it tends to sit at breathing height. Propane is heavier than air and sinks, so it collects near the floor. That's physics — and one alarm sitting in a single spot simply can't watch both zones equally well.

Our recommendation: buy two, and place one high and one low.
Plug one into a higher outlet (bedroom or living area) — this is your CO coverage, watching the air you breathe while you sleep.
Plug one into a lower outlet (near the galley, stove, or propane locker) — this is your propane coverage, catching a leak right where the gas actually pools.

Up top and down low — that's when you're genuinely covered. At this price, two units still cost less than a single hardwired RV detector that only watches one gas. Many of our customers do exactly this, and sleep better for it.

Q14: Can I use it in my RV?
Yes. Plug it into any 110–220V outlet in your motorhome, travel trailer, fifth wheel, camper van, or truck cab. For off-grid nights when your inverter is off, install a 9V battery (sold separately) in the rear compartment so it keeps monitoring if the power goes out.

Q15: Does it ship to the US? How long?
Yes — we ship to all 50 US states. Delivery typically takes 5–8 business days.

Q16: What if something goes wrong?
Every KH168 is backed by a 2-year warranty. If your unit fails, we send a replacement first and sort out the failed unit afterwards. No diagnostics, no waiting on parts, no repair-center runaround.
