TPMS for Horse Trailers — a safer ride for every horse.

A tire failure is dangerous with any trailer. With horses aboard, it's worse: the trailer lurches, the horses scramble, and you're changing a tire on the shoulder with live cargo. A horse trailer TPMS gives you the warning early, so you stop on your terms.

WHY IT MATTERS MORE WITH HORSES

Tire safety is horse safety

Live load

Horses shift their weight

Horses move as you drive, loading one side and then the other. A soft tire on a moving load makes the trailer harder to control.

Roadside risk

The shoulder is the worst place to stop

Unloading or changing a tire with horses aboard beside traffic is dangerous. An early alert lets you choose a safe exit or truck stop.

Long hauls

Show season means long, hot miles

Long drives to shows and trail rides build heat in trailer tires. Temperature readings show which tire is working too hard.

Storage

Trailers sit between seasons

Tires lose pressure and develop flat spots while parked. A TPMS shows the cold reading before you load the first horse.

MATCH YOUR TRAILER

Which TPMS fits your horse trailer?

Most horse trailers run tandem axles — four trailer tires — plus your tow vehicle.

BEFORE YOU LOAD

A 2-minute tire check before every haul

  • Wake the monitor and read every tire cold — compare each one to the pressure on the sidewall or your trailer's placard.
  • Look at the pairs. Tires on the same axle should read within a few PSI of each other.
  • Walk the trailer and look for cracks, bulges and uneven wear the sensors can't see.
  • Watch the first 30 minutes. Temperatures rise as tires warm; one wheel running far hotter than the rest points to a brake or bearing problem.

HORSE TRAILER TPMS QUESTIONS

TPMS for Horse Trailers FAQ

Why use a TPMS on a horse trailer?

Horses are a live, shifting load. A blowout can make the trailer lurch, and changing a tire on the shoulder with horses aboard is risky. A TPMS warns you of a slow leak or a hot tire early, so you can stop somewhere safe.

Will the TPMS alarm spook my horses?

No. The alarm sounds from the monitor in your truck cab. The sensors on the trailer wheels are silent.

Do aluminum horse trailers block the signal?

Aluminum walls and steel frames can weaken the signal from the rear axle. On longer gooseneck and living-quarters trailers, add a signal booster mounted near the middle of the trailer.

Should I monitor my truck's tires too?

Yes, it's worth it. Most kits show truck and trailer together: a pickup plus a tandem bumper-pull is 8 tires; a dually plus a gooseneck is 10.

Can a TPMS help catch a bad wheel bearing?

Indirectly. A failing bearing or a dragging brake heats the wheel, and that heat shows up as a high tire temperature at that position. If one wheel runs much hotter than the others, stop and check the hub.

How often should I check horse trailer tires?

Before every trip, cold. Horse trailers often sit between shows and seasons and lose pressure while parked. The TPMS gives you every reading in seconds before you load.

Your horses can't tell you about a soft tire.

The monitor in your cab can. Pick the Grundig TPMS that fits your trailer and haul with confidence.
