Search "RV accessories" and you'll find a thousand listicles filled with fairy lights, outdoor rugs, and decorative throw pillows. Those things are nice. None of them will save your trip. This list is different — it's ranked by what actually goes wrong when you don't have it.
We've organized these ten essentials into three tiers: Safety (prevents injury and catastrophic damage), Smart Monitoring (eliminates guesswork about your rig's systems), and Comfort (makes daily life on the road genuinely easier). If you're a new RV owner, the first three items on this list are the ones you should buy before your first trip — not after your first problem.
Tier 1: Safety — Buy These Three Before Your First Trip
These items prevent the three most common catastrophic RV failures: tire blowouts, gas poisoning, and electrical system destruction. None of them are optional.

#1
SafetyTire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
The single most important RV purchase you will makeRoughly 75% of roadside tire failures start with under-inflation — and a tire can lose 6-10 PSI while looking completely normal. Your tow vehicle's factory TPMS only monitors the truck, not the trailer. A dedicated RV TPMS monitors every tire in real time with pressure and temperature alerts, giving you minutes of warning instead of zero. The RV01 supports 4/6/8 wheels at up to 116 PSI with 433MHz RF that cuts through metal RV walls.

Safety4-in-1 CO, Propane & Natural Gas Detector
Your factory detector covers one gas. This covers three.Furnaces, stoves, water heaters, and generators all produce carbon monoxide. Loose propane fittings can fill your rig with explosive gas. Campground natural gas hookups add a third invisible threat. Most factory detectors monitor CO only, have no display, and emit a 70dB alarm that's barely audible over rooftop A/C. The SR-907 detects all three gases with an 85dB siren, real-time LCD, UL 2034 certification, and a full diagnostic self-test — plugged in and running in 60 seconds.

Safety30A Surge Protector with 15,000J Absorption
One bad pedestal can destroy $5,000 in electronicsCampground pedestals are notoriously unreliable — corroded grounds, open neutrals, voltage swings between 105V and 135V. A single surge can fry your converter, A/C control board, fridge electronics, and TV simultaneously. Budget 1,000J protectors die on the first real surge. The Grundig 15,000J protector absorbs repeated surges, adds IP67 waterproofing, an anti-theft locking ring, and a diagnostic LED that tells you whether the pedestal is safe before you plug in.

The three safety items above cover the failures that end trips: blowouts, gas poisoning, and fried electronics. Everything else on this list makes the trip better.
Tier 2: Smart Monitoring — Stop Guessing
Once your safety baseline is covered, these upgrades eliminate the daily guessing games that make RVing stressful: How much power do I have left? How much water? Did I lock the door?

#4
SmartShunt-Based WiFi Battery Monitor
Factory voltage gauges are off by up to 30%. This one is off by 1%.Voltage is a terrible proxy for battery capacity — especially with LiFePO4, whose voltage stays flat from 90% down to 30%. A precision copper shunt counts every amp-hour in and out, giving you true state of charge, real-time current draw, watts, and estimated hours remaining. With Bluetooth, WiFi, and cloud remote, you can check your batteries from inside the RV, at the campfire, or from a thousand miles away. Available in 50A / 100A / 400A / 600A models.

SmartUltrasonic WiFi Tank Level Monitor
Factory tank probes lie. This measures to ±1mm.Those 1/3–2/3–Full indicator lights are resistive probes that corrode and get coated in tank sludge within a season or two. The ultrasonic sensor never touches the liquid — it measures the distance to the surface with sound waves, accurate to 1 millimeter, from 10cm to 1.4m. Works on fresh water, grey water, diesel, and fuel. Data travels via 433MHz RF to a WiFi gateway, then to the free Tuya Smart app, with customizable high/low push alerts.

SmartRV Smart Lock with Fingerprint & Keypad
No more digging for keys in a downpour.RV door locks are universally cheap and jam-prone — and every tenth rig uses the same CH751 key for storage compartments. The Grundig Smart Lock offers five unlock methods across three models: keypad code, remote fob, mechanical key, BYD fingerprint sensor (unlocks in under a second), and Bluetooth app with walk-up unlocking. IP65 waterproof, all-metal body, fits the standard 3.75" × 2.75" RV door cutout with no modification, and installs in 20 minutes.

ComfortHidden Magnetic Cabinet Locks
Stops the "everything on the floor" moment on sharp turns.Cabinet doors and drawers swinging open mid-drive is one of the most common RV annoyances — and one of the most expensive, when dishes and glassware shatter. Traditional latches are ugly and require drilling. These magnetic locks mount entirely inside the cabinet with 3M adhesive or screws, so there's zero visible hardware. Touch the magnetic key to the marked spot and the door releases; it resets automatically when closed. Available in 4-pack or 8-pack.

#8
ComfortPortable 3-in-1 CO Detector for Camping
CO protection that follows you outside the RV.The SR-907 needs AC power. The HD-600 doesn't. It runs on a 1100mAh rechargeable battery for up to 8 days standby, sticks to any metal surface with its magnet, and hangs from a 22cm lanyard. Triple alert (85dB buzzer + flashing red LED + vibration) means you'll notice it even in a noisy campground. Also monitors temperature and humidity. Perfect for tents, screen rooms, outdoor kitchens, and as a backup detector in the RV itself.

Comfort72W 3-Port Fast Car Charger with Voltage Display
Charge three devices at full speed — and monitor your 12V system.Between phones, tablets, dash cams, GPS units, and kids' devices, RVers never have enough charging ports. This 72W charger delivers 18W + 18W + 36W simultaneously across two QC3.0 USB-A ports and one PD3.0 USB-C port — all three fast-charging at once, not sharing power. The built-in blue LED digital voltage display (9-29V) doubles as a quick health check on your 12V system. Works in any 12V or 24V vehicle.

Comfort8-Piece Nesting Camp Cookware Set
A complete kitchen for 3-4 people in 800 grams.RVs have some of the most space-constrained kitchens in the world. This 8-piece set — large pot, medium pot, frying pan that doubles as a lid, 3 plates, 2 cups, and a vented steel lid — nests into a single stack roughly the height of a smartphone. 410 stainless steel with zero chemical coatings, so it's safe over an open fire, a gas stove, or a camping burner. Foldable cool-touch handles stay flush against the pot body when packed.

Recommended Build Order: What to Buy When
Frequently Asked Questions
If I can only afford one item from this list, which should it be?
The TPMS. Tire blowouts are the single most common catastrophic RV failure, and they're almost entirely preventable with real-time monitoring. A tire failure at highway speed can total a trailer, damage the tow vehicle, and injure everyone inside. Nothing else on this list has that same combination of high probability and severe consequence.
Are these accessories compatible with any RV brand?
Almost all of them, yes. The TPMS, gas detector, surge protector, battery monitor, tank monitor, portable CO detector, car charger, and cookware are universal — they work with any RV regardless of brand or year. The two exceptions are the Smart Lock (fits the standard 3.75" × 2.75" door cutout, covering ~90% of RVs) and the Tank Monitor (requires a 55mm or larger hole on the tank top). Measure both before ordering.
Do any of these require a subscription or ongoing fees?
No. Every smart device on this list uses free apps with no subscription: the battery monitor uses Junce Home, the tank monitor uses Tuya Smart, and the smart lock's Bluetooth model uses Tuya Smart as well. There are no monthly fees, no cloud storage charges, and no premium tiers. You buy the hardware once and it works indefinitely.
Will these work if I have no cell signal at my campsite?
Yes, with one caveat. The TPMS, gas detector, surge protector, portable CO detector, car charger, cookware, and cabinet locks require no connectivity at all. The battery monitor works fully on its 2.4" display and via Bluetooth with no internet. The tank monitor works locally as long as you have a local WiFi router (even without internet). Only the optional remote/cloud features need an internet connection — and those are conveniences, not requirements.
How do I know when to replace these items?
Gas detectors: replace the entire unit when the sensor reaches end-of-life (5-7 years for the SR-907, indicated by a yellow light; 5 years for the HD-600). TPMS: replace sensor batteries annually, sensors themselves every 5-7 years. Surge protector: replace when the diagnostic LED indicates protection is compromised. Battery and tank monitors: no scheduled replacement; they last many years. Smart lock: replace the 4×AA batteries every 6-12 months.
