I. Product Overview

Trailer hubs sit behind the wheels where you cannot see or feel them, and a hub that is running hot looks exactly like one that is running fine. The Grundig Trailer Hub Temperature Monitoring System puts a wireless sensor at each hub and a receiver in the cab, so the temperature of every axle you are towing is on one screen while you drive.

A sensor mounts with screws at the hub, beside the brake, reads temperature on its own, and reports by radio to the receiver — no wiring runs out to the sensors. Readings refresh every 6 seconds, and the kit takes one to ten sensors, so a single-axle trailer and a ten-wheel rig use the same system.

II. Why Trailer Hub Temperature Matters

Every hub on a loaded trailer carries a share of the trailer's weight — hundreds of pounds on a light single-axle trailer, and more than a thousand on a heavy axle. The bearings and races under that load are where friction turns into heat, and a bearing that is dry, worn, or short on grease makes heat faster than the hub can shed it.

The order of events is what makes temperature useful: the heat comes first. A bearing on its way out warms up and keeps warming over miles before anything locks up. A rising number on a gauge gives you time to pull over and look at the hub, rather than finding out at the side of the road with a hub, brakes, and a tow to sort out.

It also covers ground that tire pressure monitoring cannot. A TPMS knows about the tire — its pressure and, on some systems, its air temperature. It has no way to tell you that the hub or the bearing behind that tire is cooking. Hub temperature is the reading that sits between the two.

Measuring it is the simple part. A sensor reads temperature on its own, and sends the number by radio at 433.92 MHz to the receiver in the cab, where every position shows on one screen and refreshes every 6 seconds. The method holds up because it tracks the failure itself: friction makes heat, heat can be measured, and the increase shows up before the damage does.

III. Key Features

Every Hub on One Screen. The LCD lists each position by number and refreshes every 6 seconds, so you can watch a tandem or triple-axle trailer without opening an app.

Flashes and Beeps When One Runs Hot. Cross your set threshold and that position and its reading flash, with an audible alarm — 50 to 110 °C is yours to set.

A Repeater Carries the Signal Back. On trailers up to three axles, one repeater relays the sensors to the receiver; four axles or more use two.

Screwed On, Five-Year Battery, No Wiring. Each sensor screws to the hub and runs on a CR2050 cell for five years or more, so no wiring reaches the wheel.

Sealed and Rated for a Loaded Hub. Sensors are IP67 sealed and read from -40 °C to 125 °C at ±3 °C, which covers a brake and hub under summer load.

IV. Compatibility

The only choices to make are how many hubs you want to watch and how many repeaters your rig needs.

Axles to monitor Sensors Repeater
1 axle 2 1
2 axles 4 1
3 axles 6 1
4 axles or more 8 to 10 2

VI. Important Notes

  • Mount each sensor at the hub with the supplied screws, beside the brake, and re-check the mounting after the first week on the road.
  • Fit the repeater your rig needs as well — one for up to three axles, two for four or more — so the last hub still reaches the receiver.
  • Run the antenna cable to the chassis, away from wiring harnesses and batteries, and leave it in an open area of the frame. Do not pull hard on the cable.
  • Set your alarm threshold before the first trip. The factory default is 90 °C.
