About GRUNDIG RV CO, Propane & Natural Gas Detector

Your RV's furnace, stove, water heater, and generator all produce carbon monoxide. A single propane leak can fill your RV in minutes. Parked at a campground with natural gas? That's a third threat. CO is odorless and invisible — you won't know something's wrong until symptoms hit. By then, it's often too late.

The GRUNDIG KH885 puts four live readings on one screen — CO, combustible gas (propane & natural gas), temperature, and humidity — and tells you out loud the moment something is wrong. Four readings. One screen. A spoken alarm you won't sleep through.

Ⅰ. Key Highlights

【4-in-1: CO + Propane/Natural Gas + Temperature + Humidity】 — Carbon monoxide: 0–2,000 ppm with a time-weighted alarm response. Combustible gas (propane & natural gas): 0–10% LEL, alarming at just 5% LEL. Plus continuous temperature (1–176°F) and humidity (0–99% RH) monitoring. Four sensors, four live numbers, one screen — no app to install, no second device to buy.

【Voice Alert + ≥85dB Siren + Flashing Red LED】 — Most alarms just beep at 3 a.m. and leave you staring at the ceiling. The KH885 adds a spoken alert — "Gas leak detected. Please pay attention." — a human voice cuts through deep sleep, headphones, and road noise in a way a beep never will. Backed by a ≥85dB high-frequency siren with strong penetration and a high-contrast red LED that flashes with every alarm. See it even if you can't hear it.

【Real-Time Monitoring & Display — Peace of Mind You Can Read】 — Most alarms only tell you something is wrong. The KH885 tells you how wrong: live CO in ppm, gas in % LEL, temperature in °F, humidity in % RH. Watch the numbers climb while you ventilate — and watch them fall before you go back inside. That visible confirmation is what most alarms can't give you.

【High-Definition Colour Screen, Crisp Readings】 — A bright, high-contrast display keeps all four readings legible at a glance — even from across the room, even in a dark hallway at 3 a.m.

【Time-Weighted CO Response — Fast Where It Counts】 — CO danger depends on concentration and exposure time, so the KH885 follows a time-weighted curve: 50 ppm → alarms within 60–90 minutes · 100 ppm → within 10–40 minutes · ≥200 ppm → within 1 minute. Low levels give you time to act; a dangerous concentration trips it almost instantly.

【Alarms at Just 5% LEL — Earlier Warning Than Most】 — Many household alarms don't trigger until 10–25% of the lower explosive limit. The KH885 sounds the alarm at 5% LEL, giving you a wider safety margin to ventilate, shut off the gas, and get everyone outside.

【Smart Fault Detection — A Dead Sensor Never Pretends to Be Safe】 — A dedicated yellow FAULT indicator tells you when the unit itself needs attention. A steady green POWER light confirms it's monitoring, and one press of SELF-TEST runs a full check of sensors, sounder, and indicators. Test it weekly.

【Plugs In Under 60 Seconds — Wide Voltage, Low Power】 — No wiring, no tools, no hardwiring into your RV's 12V system. Plug into any standard AC outlet (110–220V). An intelligent microprocessor keeps readings stable while a low-power design and <120mA alarm current keep running costs negligible — leave it on duty year-round. Compact at 2.44 × 3.82 × 2.05 in (62 × 97 × 52 mm) and just 98 g (3.5 oz).

【US & EU Plug Versions — Backed for 2 Years】 — Choose the North American plug or the European plug to match your region; same unit, both running on AC 110–220V. Backed by a 2-year warranty — replace, don't repair.

【Ideal For】 — RV, Motorhome, Camper Van, Travel Trailer, 5th Wheel, Truck Cab, Cabin, Home, Bedroom, Kitchen, Basement, Garage, Office, Hotel Room, Apartment.

⚠️ Important: The KH885 runs on AC power only (110–220V) and has no battery compartment — it monitors whenever it has mains power. For RV use, plug it into shore power or an inverter-fed outlet so protection stays continuous. Because CO rises and propane sinks, one unit in one position can't cover both zones — we recommend running two: one high, one low (see FAQ Q11).

Ⅴ. FAQ

Q1: What gases does the KH885 detect?
It detects Carbon Monoxide (CO), Propane (LPG), Natural Gas (Methane), and other combustible gases — plus continuous temperature and humidity monitoring. Four live readings on one screen.

Q2: Does it detect propane?
Yes. The KH885 detects propane (LPG) as well as natural gas, alongside carbon monoxide.

Q3: Does it show the actual numbers, or just beep?
It shows the numbers. The LCD displays live CO in ppm, combustible gas in % LEL, plus temperature and humidity — so you can watch levels rise and fall in real time instead of guessing from a flashing light.

Q4: Will it go off every time I cook?
No. The KH885 only alarms when gas concentrations reach genuinely dangerous levels — its threshold is 5% LEL, a point well above normal cooking fumes. It also uses a time-weighted CO response, so brief low-level readings won't trigger it while a real danger trips it fast.

Q5: What is the CO alarm response?
A time-weighted curve: 50 ppm alarms within 60–90 minutes, 100 ppm within 10–40 minutes, and 200 ppm or more within one minute. Short exposure to low levels won't cause false alarms; a dangerous concentration trips it almost instantly.

Q6: What about propane and natural gas? What is the range?
0 to 10% LEL, with the alarm triggering at just 5% LEL — an early-warning threshold that gives you more time to act than most household alarms.

Q7: What does the voice say?
It speaks one clear, simple alert: "Gas leak detected. Please pay attention." A human voice pulls your attention far better than a beep — especially when you're asleep or the room is noisy. It deliberately doesn't announce which specific gas triggered the alarm; for that, just glance at the LCD, which shows the live CO level, gas level, temperature, and humidity, with the red ALARM indicator lit.

Q8: How loud is the alarm?
≥85 dB, with a sharp high-frequency tone designed for strong penetration — loud enough to cut through a running generator, road noise, and deep sleep.

Q9: Is it battery powered?
No. The KH885 runs on AC power (110–220V) only and has no battery compartment — it monitors whenever it has mains power. For RV use, plug it into shore power or an inverter-fed outlet so protection stays continuous.

Q10: Can I use it in the US?
Yes. A North American plug version is available, and the unit operates on standard US household power. A European plug version is also available for other regions.

Q11: I've heard CO rises and propane sinks — can one detector really cover both?
CO is slightly lighter than air and rises, so it tends to sit at breathing height. Propane is heavier than air and sinks, so it collects near the floor. That's physics — and one alarm sitting in a single spot simply can't watch both zones equally well.

Our recommendation: buy two, and place one high and one low.
Plug one into a higher outlet (bedroom or living area) — this is your CO coverage, watching the air you breathe while you sleep.
Plug one into a lower outlet (near the galley, stove, or propane locker) — this is your propane coverage, catching a leak right where the gas actually pools.

Up top and down low — that's when you're genuinely covered. Two units still cost less than a single hardwired RV detector that only watches one gas. Many of our customers do exactly this, and sleep better for it.

Q12: Can I use it in my RV?
Yes — it runs on standard AC 110–220V, so it works on shore power or plugged into an inverter-fed outlet in your motorhome, travel trailer, fifth wheel, camper van, or truck cab. Keep in mind there's no battery compartment, so it monitors whenever it has AC power.

Q13: Why did the reading look off when I first plugged it in?
The unit preheats for 180 seconds after power-on; the green POWER light confirms it's monitoring once warm-up is complete. Give it those three minutes before reading the numbers.

Q14: How do I know it's still working?
Three ways: the green POWER indicator stays on during normal operation; a yellow FAULT indicator lights if the unit detects an internal problem; and pressing SELF-TEST runs a full check of sensors, sounder, and indicators. Test it weekly.

Q15: What should I do when the alarm sounds?
Turn off the gas appliance and shut off the fuel supply, move everyone to fresh air, and don't re-enter until the source is found and fixed. If it sounds again within 24 hours, have a qualified technician inspect your gas appliances.

Q16: What if something goes wrong?
Every KH885 is backed by a 2-year warranty. If your unit fails, we send a replacement first and sort out the failed unit afterwards. No diagnostics, no waiting on parts, no repair-center runaround.
